Job Description

Yahoo delivers compelling user experiences to over half a billion users through its wide range of Audience properties (Y! Front page, News, Finance, …), online community Web sites (Y! Answers, Flickr), and Web search. This involves extracting and surfacing the most relevant content on the Web to users, and doing this at Web-scale, which means hundreds of millions of users and billions of pages. Naturally, we believe in THINKING BIG.

If you are excited about working with world-class researchers in this area, and contributing to the underlying scientific foundations of a new discipline that is still in its infancy, then Y! Labs India is the place for you. The current focus of the group is on Information Extraction and Retrieval, and Enrichment and Personalization of various forms of Content including User Generated and Video Content. Our solutions are shaped by ideas from machine learning, web mining, algorithms, and more. We also actively collaborate with leading university professors and researchers from around the world.

Skills

Essential responsibilities include:
• Working with other researchers (small multi-disciplinary teams) in Y! Labs to identify relevant problems and invent new solutions in Audience and Search Sciences.
• Conducting world-class research and publishing in top-tier conferences (KDD, WWW, SIGIR, ICML, ICDM etc.) and journals.
• Generating IP for Yahoo! by filing patents.
• Working with and guiding research engineers to implement/prototype ideas
• Working with engineering and product units to transfer technology.

Required skills/qualifications
• A Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Demonstrable expertise in one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Web Mining, Database/Distributed systems, or Algorithms.
• Strong publication record in leading conferences and journals in the above fields.
• Ability to work independently while being part of a team, and perform research that is justified and guided by business opportunities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Prior experience with the Web and Web-scale data will be a plus.
• Fresh PhD's can apply too.
